‘Everyone is talking about cutting meat consumption to protect the rain forests, but when it comes to the ocean, no one talks about cutting fish consumption. It’s all about plastic straws...’

600,000 tonnes

of this fishing gear is lost or left in our oceans each year

71% decline

in abundance of oceanic shark and ray species since 1970s

90% of fish

populations are fished to their maximum or overfished

Fish Free February’s mission is to empower people with the knowledge and passion to make a difference for the oceans through their choices as consumers.

We kick things off with a challenge every February, but our goal is to reduce seafood consumption and encourage mindful seafood choices all year round.

By eating less seafood, making more sustainable food choices, and helping to spread the word about marine issues, you play a vital role in preserving our oceans.

Whether you're taking on the challenge this February or making a permanent change to your diet, together, we can create a positive ripple effect for the oceans. Let’s make a difference, one meal at a time!

#FishFreeFebruary aims to raise awareness of the immense global threat eating seafood has on our oceans. We want you to go #fishfree this February to reduce the impact your diet has on the big blue.
